Originally developed to provide secure and accessible remote assessment tools for academic institutions, The Invigilator has become a game-changer in education assessment integrity, with more than 100 institutions making use of the platform and tools.

Since its inception back in 2020, The Invigilator has grown rapidly, addressing critical challenges in academic integrity and enabling secure, scalable, and cost-effective exam monitoring – particularly in resource-constrained environments. With its simple interface, low-data requirements, commitment to accessibility, and recently live AI PC monitoring, The company continues to lead innovation in the global EdTech space at home here in South Africa, Africa and abroad.

In 2025 The Invigilator also released their new AI detection functionality that allows teachers and lecturers to detect when AI has been used for homework, assignments and assessments. Their unique approach of breaking down the question paper, analyzing each answer, as well as building a writing profile of each student has meant educators can step in when students are over relying on AI and not developing key critical thinking skills.

What impact has The Invigilator had to date?

To date, The Invigilator has served over 100 institutions with over 850,000 registered students, and a remarkable 6,000,000+ number of processed results through more than 75,000 assessments across these institutions.

The Invigilator is currently used by notable organisations and educational institutions across South Africa:

“When the IIE set out to find a proctoring solution, we had very specific requirements that, until now, no platform on the market could meet. We needed something robust enough to handle very large student numbers without compromising stability, and accessible enough to work for students even when power supply or internet connectivity was unreliable. We wanted class-leading proctoring technologies to safeguard the academic integrity of every assessment, and—above all—a partner who would let us shape their product’s development roadmap, not just sell us a static, off-the-shelf solution. We needed someone agile, willing to tailor their offering to our needs, and ready to integrate with the other technologies in our EdTech ecosystem to deliver a seamless assessment experience. It was a tall order, but we’ve found all of this and more in The Invigilator App.” – Dr Mario Landman, Head Educational Technology and Innovation, IIE Advtech

‘’UCT Online High School has used The Invigilator App (TIA) since we opened our virtual doors in 2022. TIA enables our online school to effectively conduct assessments with robust checks and balances.  Its detailed monitoring detects potential assessment irregularities, tracks student website usage during tests, and provides comprehensive data insights—ensuring that academic integrity remains at the heart of assessment.’’ Tessa Venter, Executive Head of School, UCT Online High School

“Boston City Campus—an SA, US, and UK-accredited degree-granting institution—was one of The Invigilator App’s very first clients back in 2020, and we’ve grown together ever since. Their brilliant, cost efficient, low-bandwidth, tech-driven proctoring solution has redefined exam integrity, making it accessible anywhere. They’ve already taken parts of the world by storm, and with this new Global funding, the stage is set for a truly global takeover!” – Dr Hendrik Botha, Head of Institution, Boston City Campus

“Navitas was introduced to The Invigilator almost 5 years ago. The company has grown from strength to strength in creating technologies and evolving features that have relevance in Australia as well. The Invigilator App is revolutionary because it delivers robust digital proctoring in resource-constrained environments. Its seamless deployment in Australia illustrates how principles of accessibility and adaptability can transform exam security far beyond its origin—making it a true game-changer in global education.” – Scott Jones, Group Chief Executive Officer, Navitas Education Australia

“Teneo Online School has exceptionally high standards for invigilation. Beyond ensuring academic integrity, we require seamless onboarding, intuitive user interfaces, LMS integration, and robust support functionality to serve our learners at scale. Over several years, we have worked closely with the Invigilator team to enhance every aspect of our user experience and post-invigilation academic processes. Their commitment to understanding our needs, engaging proactively, and rapidly implementing improvements is a significant advantage and a testament to the quality of their team. Invigilator’s forward-thinking approach, ability to anticipate future requirements, and consistent pace of execution set them apart in the industry.” – Chief Executive Officer, Teneo Online School
